Chelsea and Manchester City will lock horns in the English Premier League in Saturday’s early kick off at the Stamford Bridge Stadium.
Chelsea has not lost any EPL game so far this term, sitting joint top on the table with 13 points from five matches, and will be hoping to maintain that record even against a formidable team like Manchester City.
For the Pep Guardiola side, it has not been a smooth start this season. They have lost one game and drawn one, placing 5th on the log with 10 points from five matches.
Both coaches know the importance of the encounter, but a UEFA Champions League fixture next week means they have to manage their players very well amid tight fixtures.
The season is well underway and Chelsea’s load of fixtures has no sign of lessening after their victory over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. The sides we’re level after 90 minutes but, fortunately, the Blues were spared extra time with ties moving directly to penalties.
After their fixture on Saturday, Chelsea is up against Juventus in the Champions League, and Tuchel looked to manage his squad ahead of two gargantuan matches.
But these three players may most likely not feature in Saturday’s match or at the very least, they may play as substitut
1. Edouard Mendy: The 29 years old has not featured since he picked up a knock in the game against Zenit St Petersburg but returned to individual training on Wednesday.
Mendy was not involved in the squad for Aston Villa but Tuchel hoped that the Senegalese international would feature in Thursday’s training session. However, he is by no means guaranteed to play against Manchester City.
2. N’Golo Kante: The French international has been inconsistent for a while due to injury. He was substituted Mason Mount at half time against Aston Villa on Wednesday in a role reversal of the change that occurred in the win over Tottenham in the Premier League.
3. Timo Werner: The former RB Leipzig forward was conspicuous in his absence from Chelsea’s list of penalty takers at Stamford Bridge, particularly after opening the scoring for the Blues in the second period.
It turns out the 25 years old had a calf issue and had to remain on the pitch after Mount, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley had already entered the field.
Whether he has recorvered and fit to play against Manchester City has not been confirmed yet.
