MUN 0-1 AVL: 2 Mistakes Ole Gunnar Solskjær Made As Manchester United Lost Their First Home Game

Manchester United lost at Old Trafford in today’s Premier League fixture. Ole Gunnar Solskjær failed to keep their home winning streak going as they lost to Aston Villa. Manchester United lost their first home game of the season. It wasn’t the performance most Manchester United fans were expecting, Ole Gunnar Solskjær had what it took to get past Aston Villa and top the league table but he failed to do just so. Here are the two mistakes Ole Gunnar Solskjær made as Manchester United lost their first Premier League fixture this season.

1. Playing Without Jesse Lingard: Jesse Lingard always made an impact every time he came in as a substitute this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjær started him in League Cup tie against West Ham United but couldn’t do the same today. Jesse Lingard should have taken Paul Pogba’s position as a winger while Paul Pogba’s assumes Fred’s position. Ole Gunnar Solskjær played with more of a defensive lineup today, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes were only the attacking threats in today’s match. Aston Villa made it difficult for Manchester United to get behind their defense.

Manchester United couldn’t improve in the second half of the match, their performance in the first half wasn’t encouraging. Manchester United suffered few injury problems in today’s match but that never accounted for their loss as they had other players who would come in and even perform better. Manchester United’s defense lacked focus when Aston Villa scored the opening goal. The final minutes performance from Manchester United shows how important Harry Maguire is to their back line.

2. Tactics: Ole Gunnar Solskjær played with the same tactics today which was obviously not helping. He went with the same tactics used against West Ham United and it was still the same outcome. Ole Gunnar Solskjær needed to change his tactics, he needed to have more attacking players involved in the action. He had players like Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard but did start with either of them. These players would easily make an impact against Aston Villa today. Manchester United will have to keep their heads up as they have bigger game ahead of them.
